During the hot summer months, which is not a big problem in my neck of the woods, men should be focused on lighter weight fabrics, not necessarily lighter colors. What you wear should always be a matter of personal choice, comfort and style. The current season doesn’t need to limit your options. Acquiring pieces that are lightweight yet dark in color can be used later in the year for layering components. As an example, a very lightweight organic cotton shirt in baby blue can be paired with a navy blue sweater and brown sport-coat in cooler months. Alternatively pair this with seersucker shorts and maple loafers in the warmer months.
Fabrics to keep you cool and in style this summer are linen, cotton, hemp, bamboo (yes, bamboo clothes!) and silk (wild and handwoven). Aside from the obvious environmental and sustainable benefits of organic materials and natural fibers, they are naturally comfortable, always in style and completely versatile. Fashion design houses and retailers alike are understanding today’s need for sustainable clothing choices that have the ability to outlast the season.
A great option for men’s organic cotton dress shirts is Boll Organic, online and accessible to everyone.
