Wine Tips: What to sip with your spider roll

Posted by , July 25th, 2012

There is really one food/wine pairing rule to live by: a good pairing occurs when the food and wine do not overshadow each other.

Everyone has different taste preference. Some prefer complementary pairings (delicate dishes with delicate wines) while others would prefer contrasting flavors (for example, a sweet wine to make a salty dish stronger). Either way just remember the universal pairing principle: wine and food can complement or contrast each other, as long as they do not mask each other’s unique flavor and characteristics.

eco.love’s wine pairing for the day:  After a long day of work sometimes dining out or delivery is necessary. When in the mood for Asian food we love Sushi and Chinese. Try these pairing suggestions next time you order Asian!

eco.love Riesling goes wonderful with Chinese. Specifically we love it with Kung Pao chicken, the wine is refreshing and never too heavy, but fresh, fruity, and calms the palate after a bite of the spicy chicken.

eco.love Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with a spider roll or any crab based roll. The clean and crisp finish of the sauv blanc cuts through the rich decadence of the crab.

Enjoy!

Happy Hour: Rouge et Blanc

Posted by , July 20th, 2012

Rouge et Blanc is one of our favorite wine bars in San Francisco and an amazing place to relax with a glass of wine and appetizers after work in the Union Square area. Brought to you by Chef Laurent Manrique and the team at Café de la Presse (another fave) the bar has a warm interior designed by restaurateur Cameron Hirigoyen and well selected menu.

Tip: they also serve really fantastic coffee and breakfast bites in the morning.

Join us behind the scenes in conversation with the manager Olivier Daridon.

Q: What is a typical Summer evening like at Rouge et Blanc?

A: On a warm day you can find our patio seats filled with patrons sipping on cool sauvignon blanc, champagne, sangria or one of our local beers served in a chilled glass and soaking up the sun.

Q: We love the gorgeous bar and rich colors in the space…what was the inspiration behind the décor?

A: We wanted the place being sexy, vibrant, and warm so we made that a priority in our design.

Q: If you could sum up Rouge et Blanc in 3 words what would they be?

A: Choices, sophistication and pastry.

Q: What is your favorite thing on the menu?

A: The cheeses!

Q: What would you pair with a glass of eco.love?

A: I’d pair the sauvignon blanc with our crab slider and the riesling with our tarte figue and blue cheese.

Waitomo is located on the North Island of New Zealand, a gorgeous place of green fields, tumbling waterfalls, spectacular rural vistas and world renowned limestone formations and cave systems including the magical Glow Worm Caves!

These caves are so incredible…pitch black inside with glowing strands of actual glow worms hanging from the ceiling that make it feel like a serene night sky. A definite NZ must see!
